Apply today to volunteer at A dabc tax supersite in 2010

The Denver Asset Building Coalition (DABC) recruits volunteers every fall to prepare income tax returns for those who cannot afford paid professional assistance (households making $49,000 or less per year).  In 2010, the DABC plans to operate two Free Tax SuperSites in metro Denver located at the King Trimble Center, 2980 Curtis Street and the Wells Fargo Aurora Main Branch, 9000 E Colfax Street in Aurora.  The DABC will also run special "EITC Super Saturday" events at the King Trimble Center in February to kick off the tax season while creating a fun and fast-paced atmosphere for volunteers. With all of these activities in 2010, we have no doubt the DABC will maintain our status as the largest free tax preparation nonprofit in the State of Colorado!

In 2010 DABC volunteers will:

  • Prepare up to 5000 federal tax returns;

  • Return nearly $5 million in refunds and services to taxpayers;

  • Allow taxpayers the option of purchasing Savings Bonds with their refunds

  • Open over 100 new bank accounts;

  • Provide referrals to hundreds of customers for financial literacy;

  • Offer free tax assistance on an appointment basis between May and October; and

  • Continue to offer tax educational outreach throughout the year at various locations throughout the community.

These are all ambitious goals that cannot be accomplished without your valuable volunteer skills and assistance.

Currently the DABC has many volunteer positions to match various backgrounds and interests:

After the completion of training (generally 4-24 hours depending on experience and volunteer position selected), the DABC requires volunteers to commit to a minimum of
28 hours of volunteer service during the period of January to April.

DABC volunteers that worked during the 2009 tax season should NOT complete a new application.  Instead, please login to VolunteerHub and click on "Your Account" at the top of the page.  Please follow the prompts and update your information (send us an email if you have trouble logging in).  Please make sure to select the position(s) you are interested in for 2010 (Tax Assistor or Translator) and your preferred location (King Trimble or Wells Fargo).  If you are interested in assisting as an Instructor or Site Coordinator (or in any other capacity), please indicate "Other" as your desired position so we can advise you of the responsibilities involved prior to volunteering.
