recruiting 250+ volunteers to help prepare income tax returns for those who are eligible (households making less than $55,000 per year, or individuals making less than $35,000 per year). This year, DABC plans to operate free tax sites with partner agencies at two Free Tax SuperSites in metro Denver at the following locations:
- Mi Casa Resource Center, 360 Acoma Street, 80223
- Wells Fargo Aurora Main Branch, 9000 E. Colfax Street, 80010
Our Free Tax SuperSites are open Saturdays and most weeknights from mid-January through April. DABC provides free training for all volunteers, so no prior tax preparation experience is required.
There are several roles you can fill as a DABC volunteer:
Greeter: Welcome clients, perform initial screening for eligibility, help clients prepare paperwork for free tax preparation and assist with administrative tasks.
Screener: Interview clients to make sure they have all their relevant paperwork, talk to clients about other partner services that are available, explain savings opportunities and assist with administrative tasks.
Tax Assistor: Get trained by DABC staff, who will assist you in completing a simple certification from the IRS to prepare tax returns, then help clients get all the tax credits for which they are eligible. We use a simple and professional tax software.
Site Coordinator: Help other volunteers and manage the flow of taxpayers through the processes of greeting, screening, tax preparation and quality review. Support volunteers by answering questions and provide guidance to ensure that every tax return is efficiently and accurately prepared. You must have volunteered for one tax season and be certified to prepare tax returns.
- DABC Board of Directors Member: DABC is also seeking volunteers to serve on our Board of Directors to help govern and direct the future of the organization. Learn more about that role and our current openings.
