We value your time! An hour of volunteering puts over $1,000 in the hands of hard-working Denver families. Your small commitment can make a big difference! Register today!

We are recruiting 250+ volunteers to help prepare income tax returns for those who are eligible (households making less than $55,000 per year, or individuals making less than $35,000 per year). This year, DABC plans to operate free tax sites with partner agencies at the following locations in metro Denver.

DABC Main Site, 2475 W. 26th Ave, Denver (Tax Prep & Drop-Off)

Community College of Aurora, 710 Alton Way (West Quad), Denver (Tax Prep)

Arvada Community Food Bank, 8555 57th Ave, Arvada (Tax Prep)

Denver Human Services, 1200 Federal Blvd, Denver (Drop-off Only)

Wells Fargo Aurora, 9000 E. Colfax Ave., Aurora (Drop-off Only)

Our Free Tax Sites will be open on different days/hours at each location including Saturdays, Sundays, and some weeknights from late January through April 2020. DABC provides free training for all volunteers, so no prior tax preparation experience is required.

Volunteer roles
There are several roles you can fill as a DABC volunteer:

  • Front Desk or Translator: Welcome clients, perform eligibility screening, help clients prepare relevant paperwork for free tax preparation, discuss financial opportunities with clients, and assist with administrative tasks.

  • Tax Assistor: Get trained by DABC staff, who will assist you in completing a simple certification from the IRS to prepare tax returns, then help clients get all the tax credits for which they are eligible. We use a simple and professional tax software. Experienced Tax Assistors may be asked to Quality Review other Tax Assistors.

  • Site Coordinator: Help other volunteers while managing the flow of taxpayers through the process of tax preparation and quality review. Support volunteers by answering questions on tax law and tax software, and provide guidance to ensure that every tax return is efficiently and accurately prepared. You must have volunteered with VITA before, for at least one tax season.

  • DABC Board of Directors Member: DABC is also seeking volunteers to serve on our Board of Directors to help govern and direct the future of the organization. Learn more about that role and our current openings.

How it works:

After attending a short training session (generally 3-8 hours), you will be able to complete an online certification through an IRS website. Then you can assist any time from January through October.
